I recently went up to the Mini Challenge 2023 open day to take a look at the new classes and meet with friendly familiar faces and all new ones!
It was great to chat with Ben from WB Motorsport again, and to talk to a few competitors about a potential Co-driving seat for next year. I am looking to switch things up next year, and do a more navigation-focused season than a driving one.
I spoke to Ben about doing a few standalone rallies next year outside of the championship, and a gravel test perhaps, but the main focus for me was to see if there was interest from anyone in having me sat beside them for a season. I thought I would find one seat for sure, but come the day's end I walked away with 4 potential seats!
Whilst as of writing, I have made no clear cut decisions yet, it has certainly given me a lot to think about. I think it has me deep in thought about the long term goals of Rallying in general as well. I was adamant I was going to do driving only, however, circumstances have changed and it has forced me to adapt and made changes.
I would love to push the rallying up to a higher level - compete in faster cars and bigger rallies! If navigating is the best way forward, then that is the avenue I'll take. I will likely make some big decisions on which seat I will take in the coming weeks. Standalone drives? A decision for that in the coming months. I'll also be keeping up seat time in Caterhams where I can, competing in local autosolos or hillclimbs, to further push and develop my car control skills.
One thing is for sure, 2023 is looking like it is going to be a busy year for motorsport - And I can't wait!
